Terrie Melton

Terrie Melton grew to love art as a child watching her father paint oil landscapes . Not until adulthood did she try painting herself. After studying pottery with Ada Blankenship at Cleveland Community College for eight years, she began taking classes in oil painting with Linda Putnam and later watercolor with Nancy Carter. She has continued to study art by participating in workshops and taking classes with well known artists from around the US. Gerald Brommer, Carrie Brown, Judi Betts, and Polly Hammett have been most influential to her style. Landscapes and collage are Terrie's favorite subjects. Terrie has exhibited in and won awards in shows in Cleveland, Lincoln, and Gaston Counties. She is a member and past president of Cleveland County Working Artists Guild, and the present President of Southern Arts Society. Terrie has a deep love for children and working with them. Being a girl scout leader for 10 years gave her the opportunity to work with girls, since her own three children were boys. Presently her four grandchildren are the main recipients of Terrie's time although she occasionally leads some children's workshops. Terrie is divorced, lives in Shelby, and works part time as a substitute teacher with Cleveland County Schools.
